Bob Garfield is funny

Ad critic Bob Garfield has launched a blog called Comcast Must Die.

"Actually, I have no deathwish for Comcast or any other gigantic, blundering, greedy, arrogant corporate monstrosity," Garfield writes. "What I do have is the earnest desire for such companies to change their ways. This site offers an opportunity -- for you to vent your grievances (civilly, please) and for Comcast to pay close attention."

Yes, vent your grievances civilly on a blog called Comcast Must Die.

I guess "funny" is a matter of interpretation. That's a clever title for a free blog THAT HAS NO CONTENT. Not to mention, what's the point? Would it be funny if blogs were opened with all of the [Fortune 500 name] "must die"?

I get that customers have a voice. But a weakly thought out Blogspot piece with no content doesn't seem like something that you'd promote. What benefit does a customer get from something like that?

I wouldn't say it has no content. It only has two posts (it's only 4 days old), but has nearly 75 comments! I'd say Mr. Garfield has touched a raw nerve and opened an outlet for some very angry customers.

Truth? This is something Comcast should have been doing already. (Imagine if they'd started a blog called Comcast Must Die). Just because you don't provide an outlet for customers to talk about you doesn't mean they're not talking about you. At least if Comcast had facilitated this discussion, they could have participated in it (like Dell does with their blog). Now they're just a bystander as others begin to write the next chapter in their biography. Comcast needs to wake up and get with it now. Otherwise, someone else is liable to come along and start offering solutions for these pains and leave Comcast in the dust.

There is no company that I've had to deal with more deserving of a bashing than Comcast. They are a monopoly and they basically could care less about customer issues that take more than 5 minutes to solve.

My favorite part about our move from an apartment to our house last year is that finally, I could dump their sorry asses and move to DirecTV!

agreed that Comcast in particular is awful, but this blog is equally clumsy. a blog is not a good way to handle this kind of content aggregation.

i can't imagine it's more organized than a threaded forum. how is commenting here any different than being pushed around from one Comcast drone to another? you're just another voice in the crowd.

honest question, no disrespect intended - -

While I don't think this blog is perhaps the best answer, at least it is an escape valve for the growing anger of Comcast's customers. Prior to this, I don't know where they had to go. I do know Comcast is pretty deaf to the whole issue. Again, head in sand believing, "If I can't hear the screams, no one is really mad at me."

Eric -- Heh! Did the same thing myself. :)

Nomad -- I agree it's a bit clumsy. It's a bit like a "community board" in a grocery store where people post fliers and business cards: A lot of people post stuff there, but does anyone else pay attention?

Darrin -- How's this for rewriting the words to the iconic song by the Who: "That deaf, dumb and blind kid sure knows his (marketing-cornering) pinball..." (With all apologies to Pete Townshend.)
