Dante would be proud
Think you have it bad at your job? Here's a true story: A well-known law firm is trying to teach its partners to say "thank you" and "good work" to its associates. You know, that weird common courtesy stuff.
It's no joke. The firm lost 31% of its associates in 2004 and another 30% of them in 2005. Each year, one-third of highly educated associates who make about $160,000 per year decide the money's not worth it.
Next training event for the law firm: exorcism.

While they're at it, they should also teach them how to hand-write thank you notes. I'm sure they can afford nice stationery.

This comes out just days after the New York law firms start bumping their first year associate salaries from $145,000/year to $160,000/year. A little more money and a little more kindness. It's time to become a lawyer.

Considering they're teaching "thank you" and "good job," thank-you cards could be pushing the envelope. Oy, bad pun.
Heh, FanTent! More money, but the partners now say "thank you" as they shoot actual daggers from their eyes.
If they can get them to say "your welcome" after hearing "thank you" rather than "no problem", I want to know how they do it. Then again - maybe lawyers don't often hear many thanks? :)
