Citizen Marketers in 4:15

Picture_1_11

Here's something scary: Me on TV. CBS News' Up to the Minute news show interviewed me for a segment about the world of citizen marketers, capsulated in 4 minutes and 15 seconds. That means I have 9 minutes and 45 seconds left in the bank.

Thanks to Angela, Jenn and correspondent Meg Oliver.

Click here to watch the interview. I hope my shiny purple shirt doesn't blind you.

BTW, the video resides only the CBS website. If anyone has a suggestion on how to create an archive copy of the video, I would love to know.

Update: A few people have reported problems playing the video on CBS' site. Jason went the extra mile and uploaded a version to YouTube. Thanks, Jason.

Here's the clip on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIMbJIR0mFs

The video won't be working for a few minutes, YouTube needs to format it.

Great job, Ben! Really good interview, I hope you guys sell a ton (or several tons) of books :)

Where can I get a shirt like that?? ;)

Seriously, that was a fantastic interview and now you'll have all of mainstream America talking about Citizen Marketers and stuff—which can only be good.

I can see it now, two Moms in a mall chatting about Christmas gifts. One says she's getting an Elmo TMX for her little one and the other says she's getting hers a "Citizen Marketer". :)

Congrats on the coverage. And Snakes on a Blog, great job getting it up on YouTube.

Ben,
This is a great video segment, It was fantastic, informative, entertaining and quite possibly eye opening for businees, marketers, brand managers and even consumers.

I have maintained on my blogs (i author several around new media for the past few years, and also just blogged about this video and your new book) that "eveyone has a megaphone" with he advent of blogs, podcasts, youtube, and other forms of CGM or UGC. I am looking forward to reading your book next week.

I am actually involved in a startup that is embracing this trend to facilitate transparency, rating, reviews, WOM networks and much more about the 15 million local business that exist. It is really exciting times when consumers can collective and candidly and very transparently express their thoughts and insights and reviews around products, services and experiences.

Your shiny purple shirt was just fine. ;) and congrats on the massive exposure. The wisdom of the crowds meets citizen marketers meets youtube meets search meets meets community...it is a sea of changing that is sweeping across the internet and really becoming disruptive. I love it.

Blog readers are the best. Thanks to the cool cats who sent me archival versions of the video.

Many thanks Eric, David and Rodney. I know one thing for sure: TMX Elmo will totally kick my butt this holiday season.

To echo others - great interview! You seemed very poised and not the slightest bit nervous. More than I can say for how I'd look :)

Ben:

When this happens in the future, you might want to ask for the name of the station's archivist. For about $20 or so they will provide you with a master (DVD or Tape) of the video.

The is the legal way to get a copy of the video. Technically, there are copyright issues if someone tapes the broadcast and encodes it for YouTube or other distribution without proper permission.

I have published a realted post at my blog,

Awesome interview. It's great to see the citizen marketing concept gaining traction on the major TV networks. I watched a special on 20/20 in October about angry customers using the Internet to voice their frustrations. The mainstream is definitely taking notice of what you're talking about.

...And now we're coming up on a new holiday season. But I think retailers are much more plugged-in this year than last.
